Chelton Brown Ltd - By Sali Brown Managing Director

I started Chelton Brown in 1990 in the front room of my home with one secretary.  Within two months we had been so successful that we took premises in York Road and the business continued to grow. In October 2000 I merged the business with Property Management Services (PMS) established in 1975 by Doug Young, which instantly doubled the size of the company.  We relocated to George Row and with the town centre location; extra investment in staff and advertising PMS Chelton Brown soon became Northampton’s leading letting agency.

My two partners Doug Young and Duncan Scott decided to retired form the partnership in 2005, I reverted the name back to Chelton Brown and we became a Limited Company. 

During 2007 Gill Wright and Melanie Walder both became directors and Sue Marlow the General Manager. We are without doubt the four most knowledgeable ladies in the business.  No other property agents can offer you the level of expertise that we can.

We have over 20 experienced staff with dedicated letting, management, accounts and block management departments managing over 2000 properties throughout Northamptonshire.

Management Team
Sali Brown - Managing Director
I have been in the Property business for 24 years and first opened Chelton Brown in 1990. The business has seen many changes since then. I first joined the NAEA in 1985 and after showing due dalliance became a fellow in 1990. I have been in ARLA since 1995 and was one of the first people to pass (with Distinction) the ARLA 2000 exam that was brought out in the year 2000 to show a legal understanding of the lettings industry. I ensure that the business is run following all the principles of the ARLA (Association of Residential Letting Agents).

Gill Wright - HR Director
I have over 30 years experience in the property industry which spans both the estate agency and lettings markets assisting both independent and corporate clients throughout the region. I also worked for ten years for one of the country’s largest relocation companies dealing with estate agents and properties over ten counties. My latter ten years have been spent in the local lettings market here in Northampton.

Melanie Walder - Director of Block Management
I have been involved in property and financial services in Northampton since 1982 and I joined Chelton Brown as the Director of Block Management in October 2007. Since February 2000 and prior to my joining Chelton Brown, I managed a Residential Block Management. I dealt with all aspects and requirements involved in all areas of the freehold and leasehold management of blocks of flats. I intend to use my wealth of experience and knowledge in Residential Block Management to improve the services offered to clients by the Chelton Brown Block Management Division.

Sue Marlow - General Manager
I have been in the property industry since 1981, firstly in sales when I was a member of the NAEA and for two years was appointed as Branch Secretary and from 1991 in lettings during which time I ran my own lettings business for ten years until I sold it as a going concern in 2003. Having spent a short time being a ‘lady of leisure’, I found I missed lettings in the Northampton area so when Sali contacted me to discuss the possibilities of joining her successful team I didn’t hesitate.

Raye Bamford - Accounts Manager
I Started working with Sali at Chelton Brown in 1992 when we were at the office in York Road. I have seen all the changes and expansion over the years and have watched the company go from strength to strength. I like to think I have given a helping hand to the success along the way. Chelton Brown has become a family to me and I enjoy every part of my working life and they just won’t let me retire.

Lettings Team

Alison Winstanley - Lettings Negotiator
When I started at Chelton Brown in 2007, I had only worked for a short time in the lettings industry, my experience had not been good. Coming to work with this fantastic team has shown me that the world of lettings and property management can be fun and challenging. I really enjoy finding people their perfect home, no two people or properties are alike. I have received all the training and support I need and feel now that I do a really good and very rewarding job.

Anita Howson - Lettings Administrator
I have worked for Chelton Brown since 2003. My job involves looking after the tenants once they have chosen a property, doing their references and making sure the property is ready for them. I get involved with all the procedures in the letting office and enjoy using all the knowledge I have learnt both in house and on ARLA courses, when I help with the training of new staff.

Anna Blackwell - Lettings Administrator
I have been working for Chelton Brown since February 2006. My role is varied but primarily includes referencing our applicants, preparing the paperwork relating to a move in. In addition as a member of the lettins team I speak to prospective tenants and landlords. I also arrange safety checks certificates for when the new tenants move in and process insurance applications. I am highly organised, efficient, customer-focused and a strong communicator.

Anna Facer - Lettings Negotiator
I have worked with Sali at Chelton Brown since I left school in 1992 taking just a short time out for family. In the early years at Chelton Brown I was involved in all aspects of the business, but as we grew I was able to concentrate on the area I most enjoy, which is meeting the clients. There is always a new challenge and the company is continuously expanding, giving us all lots of career opportunities.

Diane Cooksley - Viewings Clark
I have work at Chelton Brown since 2000. My job involves showing the applicants around the properties. I have lived in Northampton all my life and have found my knowledge of the area a great asset. Joanne Hutchinson - Lettings Office Manager
I joined the Chelton Brown team in 2006, bringing 3 years of experience within the industry. I started of doing administration but soon moved to become a negotiator and more recently have been promoted to office manager. I spend most of my time in the office, only occasionally escaping to attend a viewing or valuation. I have done lots of training in my roles within the company.

Jordan Clark - Sales & Marketing
I have worked at Chelton Brown since April 2007 and have two years previous experience in the lettings industry. Having worked previously for a smaller company I was involved in all aspects of the business, which helps me now in my role of promoting Chelton Brown and the fantastic service we provide. I really enjoy meeting new people and get the opportunity to see lots of different types of property. Robert Slater - Sales & Marketing
I started work at Chelton Brown in 2007. I had worked in another letting agents in Northampton for a number of years. I take the proeprties to let on to our books and arrange the advertising and marketing of them. The job is very demanding and my targets are high, i enjoy the challange and usually exceed my targets. Sue James - Lettings Negotiator
I joined Chelton Brown in 2007, it did not take me long to settle into the team. I've brought with me over 4 years experience in Estate Agency and 6 months in Lettings. I started valuing and taking on new properties but also took care of the marketing and the relevant administration this entails. I then decided I enjoyed negotiating and jointed the team of lettings negotiators, I love the new position and enjoy the buzz of the role. Chelton Brown is the most positively motivated company I have ever worked for.

Andrew Rougvie - Property Manager
I joined Chelton Brown in March '08 as a letting agent, and moved in to property management in April'08. I now do both roles and am really enjoying it. I had never worked in the industry before but would recommend a career in lettings to anyone as it is a hectic but rewarding job.

Christian Halls - Client Accounts
I started working at Chelton Brown at the beginning of 2007. I have always worked within an accounts department, since achieving a BA (Hons) Business Administration degree in 1998. Running a client accounts system is very different to the work I have done before, but my insistence on accuracy and attention to detail is an attribute essential for my role. I enjoy the work environment here, which is busy and rewarding.

Donna Copp - Property Manager
I started working at Chelton Brown in October 2004 as a Lettings Administrator and became a Property Manager in 2006. This job involves managing a portfolio of properties from tenants moving in up until the final inspection when the tenants vacate. I am fully trained and ARLA Qualified.

Emma Sandall - Property Manager
Having previously worked in lettings in Market Harborough, I have been working for Chelton Brown since August 2005 and in December 2005 I passed my ARLA examinations. As a property manager I have a wide and varied role within the Property Management Team and on a day to day basis I manage a portfolio of properties on behalf of our clients.

Linda Worrall - Client Accounts
Before I started to work at Chelton Brown in 2006 I had always worked in accounts. I had always done manual book keeping and have really enjoyed the challenge of the computerised accounts I work with now. I received a lot of training and support and I am now confident and pleased that I was given the opportunity to learn. The amount of information that can be processed in one day is incredible.

Lisa Russell - Property Manager (Renewals)
I joined Chelton Brown in 2006 having worked for a local letting agent for three years and a London agent for four years. My job involves renewing tenancies, so I have lots of contact with our clients that I enjoy. I am also responsible for the safety checks and have found my past experience in Property Management and the training I have received a great help wit this. I am due to do my ARLA exam this year.

Tracey Sample - Manager of Property Manager
I started work in 1996 with Property Management Services and was part of the merger of PMS Chelton Brown who then became Chelton Brown. I have enjoyed trying numerous different tasks throughout the years and have now become a Property Manager, managing over 200 properties within the Chelton Brown portfolio, this is, at times challenging but rewarding. I have been on many training courses and I am fully ARLA qualified.

Denise Cooper - Block Manager
Before moving to Northamptonshire and starting work for Chelton Brown in 2007 I lived and worked in London. I have over 15 years experience within the lettings industry and really enjoy my job in the Block Management Department. The work is varied and the team are great. The training is on going and I look forward to the challenges that each day brings.

Dianne Capewell - Block Account
I have worked for Chelton Brown since June 2006, originally doing Client Accounts and more recently the Block Accounts. I have 37 years of accounts experience from a variety of different industries and environments, from Manufacturing to Service and Support. Adam Bass - Property Manager

Carolyn Bench - Senior Lettings Negotiator
I worked for Campbells lettings before Chelton Brown took over in November 2007. I had been with Campells for about a year. I have been working in Daventry in the property industry for most of my working life, both in sales and lettings.
